This Walking Festival is held during the month of August and is centred around the world famous Glendalough area of Wicklow. There are 12 walks held over four days with experienced guides and various grades of walk from 8km strolls for all the family to 12km strenuous regimes for the experienced hill walker....

A network of forest paths traverse the entire valley and provide access to the heavily wooded western regions surrounding the Upper Lake. These walks provide a glorious opportunity to see the wonderful diversity of flora and fauna in the Glen. Among the many walks or short drives from Avoca village are 1. Go past the Catholic Church and out via Sulphurbrook and Kilmacoo, turn left at Kilmacoo Cross, through Conary village; turn left at next crossroads to the Motte Stone, a glacial boulder of granite about 10 feet high by 14 feet by 10 feet perched on the summit of a hill over 800 feet high. About a mile (2km) to the north-west is the Devil's Glen. This well known beauty spot is a deep chasm whose craggy sides are covered with trees and shrubs. On entering the glen the Vartry River falls nearly a hundred feet into the 'Devils Punchbowl', a deep basin in the rock below. Walks have been built at a considerable height and there are fine views from them and from the winding pathways around the glen....

The Wicklow Way was the first long-distance walking route in the Republic when it was opened in 1981. In Irish called "Sli Cualann Nua", after one of the five historic roads radiating from ancient Tara, the Wicklow Way runs for over 130 km Marlay Park in Dublin southwards to Clonegal, County Carlow.
