The Vartry river is in a very pictureque setting flowing as it does past one of Ireland's oldest coaching inns, Hunter Hotel. The lower reaches of the Vartry River, downstream of Ashford Bridge are club controlled by the Vartry Angling Club and day tickets are available for the Secretary. Also the club has developed a beautiful rainbow trout fishery, the Ashtown Reservoir near Wicklow Town which is well stocked with trout up to 5Ibs in weight.
