Russborough was built in the 18th century and designed by Richard Castle for Joseph Leeson, Earl of Milltown. The building of the house began in about 1741 and took nearly ten years to complete.
The house is built of granite in the Palladian style. The front facade has a fine flight of steps, with heraldic lions and urns, a sweep of graceful curved colonnades crowned on the skyline with Baroque urns, and well proportioned solid flanking wings. It has fine examples of plasterwork by the Francini Brothers. The house contains magnificent displays of silver, bronzes, porcelain, fine furniture, tapestries and carpets.
It's set in beautiful countryside in an extensive wooded parkland, right beside a lake. It's located about 30km from Dublin on the N81 and about 3km south of Blessington, County Wicklow.
