The house a two story Regency style was built about 1830 as a Dower House for Powerscourt and sited to give superb views to the waterfalls and the wicklow Mountains. Some of the planting including a weeping tulip tree and the avenue trees, date from this period. The 1850's and 1860's saw the introduction of conifers from the west coast of America-giant Redwood, (Now 7m in girth), Noble Fir, Thuya and Douglas ir. The glorious formal gardens at Powerscourt, which boast stunning views of the Sugar Loaf Mountain, is one of the County Wicklow's best loved attractions.
