A dyke, built in the 1840's, created over 1,000 hectares of mudflats and islands which now form a world renowned wildfowl reserve. Nearly half the world's population of Greenland white-fronted geese winter here where the reeds and shallows harbour over 190 species of water-fowl and waders.

Adventure Golf Course
Pirates Cove in Courtown is the location of Ireland's first adventure golf course. There are 18 carpeted greens each 35' - 40' feet long. Three greens are inside full sized caves and one is under a waterfall and one is played in the full sized pirate shipwreck.
It's a delight to walk through the subtropical gardens, with the sound of water cascading 35' down into the large man-made lake.
