Bunclody has a pretty town square and mall, backed by the Blackstairs Mountains and beside the River Slaney. The town is well supplied with restaurants, pubs and shops.
Just recently, a top class golf course has been completed in Bunclody and within a small radius of the town are several more. Also within easy reach is a series of hill and mountain walks in the Blackstairs and Wicklow Mountains. Detailed directions and maps can be supplied for several walks of varying lengths and heights.
Bunclody is also an excellent centre from which to explore the south-east of Ireland. The historic towns of Wexford and Kilkenny are less than an hour's drive, with Waterford just a little more. The Wexford coast has some of Ireland's finest beaches, while Hook Head has one of Europe's oldest lighthouses, now a museum. Glendalough in Co. Wicklow is a spectacular ancient monastic site set in a valley between the mountains, just an hour's drive away.
Even nearer is the village of Ferns with many historic monuments, most notable being the Norman Castle with its attractive visitor centre and guided tours.
There are many notable gardens worth a visit in the area. The best known is Altamont Garden, about 10 km from Bunclody. The gardens at Altamont cover 16 hectares of formal and informal gardens, including a riverside walk.
