Description
This thriving town is now heading for city status, which is no wonder, as it has so much to offer. The River Shannon and nearby Lough Ree are a haven for fishing enthusiasts and those who enjoy all types of water activities. You can play a round of golf in Athlone, Glasson or Mount Temple. Athlone is also renowned as being the birthplace of the Irish Tenor Count John McCormick and the home of the Irish writer Oliver Goldsmith. Local attractions well worth a visit include Athlone Castle, the ruins of Clonmacnoise and the Locke's Distillery in Kilbeggan.
Directions
From Athlone take the N55 Longford/Cavan rd for approx 5km. Then take the R390 Mullingar rd to 1st junction, go right and we are on the right on this rd
