John McCormack (1884 - 1945) started his singing career in a church choir in Athlone. In time he became the greatest lyric tenor of his day. His repertoire ranged from popular ballads to opera of which he was a fine exponent.
The aims of this truly international event are to assist young classical singers to achieve recognition, further their studies and of course, to provide music lovers with a unique opportunity to sample the very best in emerging talent.

The All Ireland Drama Festival based in Athlone is viewed as the premier amateur drama festival in Europe. The Festival brings togther competing theatre groups from all over Ireland. A festival Fringe incorporating music, poetry, puppetry, exhibitions and dance is held in conjunction with the drama festival....
