The city centre is bustling and a lively art and theatre scene is quite evident. Waterford city is the oldest city in Ireland and it is full of character and charm. It was the Vikings who first established a settlement here sometime in the early 10th century and they named it 'Vadrafjord'. Later in the 16th and 17th centuries Waterford prospered as a European Port and it became the unofficial capital of Ireland for a while.
This area is a golfers paradise as there are 20 Golf Courses in the Waterford area. The 18 hole Waterford Golf Course is located just 10 minutes walk from Loughdan B&B.

Reginald's Tower has been described as the oldest tower of mortared stone in Europe. It takes its name from Reginal Maclvor, Danish Govener of Waterford in 1003 A.D and has been used as a fortress, a prison, a military stores depot, a mint, and an air raid shelter.
