Tour Ref: DP

This tour is devised as a perfect introduction to the spectacular scenery of the ancient barony of Corca Dhuibhne (Corkaguiney). Gaelic culture is alive and the Gaelic language is still spoken in the homes at the western end of the peninsula. The walks allow you to sample its hills, mountain passes and beaches. Routes, with a variety of ground underfoot, can be from 10 to 20km (6 to 12.5 miles) each day.

This week long tour begins in the picturesque town of Killarney, transfers to the fishing harbour village of Dingle and ends at an inn in the peaceful seaside village of Cloghane. The Dingle Peninsula boasts the highest concentration of archaeological sites in Ireland and you will enjoy the rugged beauty of the peninsula, which was immortalised in the film Ryans Daughter. This Peninsula is located the on the most westerly point of Europe next parish America!

DAY 1 Arrival
Arrival at accommodation in the scenic and lively town of Killarney. Briefing with your guide in your guesthouse at 18.30 Hrs, followed by dinner.
DAY 2 Ballysitteragh Mountain
Distance: 10.5/6.5miles*. Ascent: 625m/2,050ft
A gentle ascent through blanket bog and scree slope onto the Mount Brandon ridge, gives a perfect overview of the territory to be walked over the coming days - panoramas of mountains, mountain passes, ice-carved valleys, drowned river valleys, islands and the Atlantic Ocean.
DAY 3 Dingle Way (Ventry to Slea Head)
Distance: 10.5km/6.5miles. Ascent: 190m/625ft
Two valleys (and contrasting views) for the price of one! From the legend-filled Annascaul Glen, a zig-zag track rises over a saddle (col) of Maghanaboe and descends into Glennahoo.
DAY 4 Great Blasket Island
Distance: 9.5km/6 miles*. Ascent: 420m/1400ft
In the early part of the 20th century the inhabitants of Great Blasket Island produced a body of literature in the Gaelic language, describing a harsh existence battling the elements. A walk on the now abandoned island allows us to appreciate the conditions that stimulated that output. Return to Dingle to enjoy dinner in another of town's famous restaurants and overnight in your family run guesthouse.
DAY 5 Celtic Culture Day
Enjoy Celtic Culture at its richest today. In the morning you will take the renowned Slea Head Drive where you can visit the Louis Mulchay Potter, the Heritage Centre of Baile an Fheirtearaigh (Ballyferriter) and the unique stone oratory of Gallarus (12th C.). Return to Dingle for a free afternoon to visit the town's craft shops, pubs or catch a sighting of Fungi, Dingle's own resident wild dolphin. Free evening for you to discover your own restaurant in Dingle and enjoy some traditional Irish music in one of Dingle's 50 pubs!
DAY 6 Dingle Way (Brandon Creek to Cloghane)
Distance: 12.5km/8miles. Ascent: 650m/2,125ft
An old military road leads from Brandon Creek (from where St Brendan sailed to America), crossing the Brandon Ridge at the saddle of Masatiompan, before descending by the abandoned village of Arraglen and onwards to the fishing village of Brandon and onwards to the scenic seaside village of Cloghane.
DAY 7 Dingle Way (The Northern Beaches)
Distance: up to 20km/12.5miles. Ascent: 50m/165ft
A leisurely but very scenic, coastal walk - three beaches, two medieval church ruins, one wild bird sanctuary on a walk that can be shortened or lengthened to suit you and the day. Return to Cloghane for a farewell dinner and a final opportunity to make the most of an Irish pub. Overnight in Cloghane where you can fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean for one last time.
