This Self Drive tour takes place over 9 days and 8 nights.

In brief, you will pick up your rental car in Dublin, and we honestly can't think of a better place to start and end your tour of charming Ireland. Why not follow the route that we have set out below and you'll take in some of Ireland's most breathtaking scenery and top attractions?

And you won't even need to worry about accommodation as you can stay in any of our Tourist Board Approved accommodations along the way.

    Day 1:
Wave goodbye to the stresses and strains of life as you sit into your rental car at Dublin Airport and let the world - or Ireland - be your oyster!

Spend your first day in Ireland's charming capital city, Dublin. There's something here for everyone. Visit attractions like Trinity College, Kilmainham Gaol and Christchurch Cathedral. In the evening, enjoy a meal in one of Dublin's top class restaurants.

    Day 2:
From Dublin, drive to Kilkenny, which you'll learn on arrival is also known as the 'Marble city'. You'll notice straightaway that this city is very different and much smaller than Dublin.

Take time to explore the narrow streets and lanes of this medieval city. Visit Kilkenny Castle or go and see the 13th century St Canice's Cathedral. Kilkenny is renowned the world over for its atmospheric pubs, so be sure to sample some fine Kilkenny stout before getting a good nights sleep before tomorrows drive.

    Day 3:
Prior to arriving in Kinsale in County Cork, you will drive through West Cork's untouched landscape. This charming seaside town is Ireland's 'Gourmet Capital' so do not leave this town without sampling its delicious fare! You can enjoy a days sailing here, or if you're not a watersports person, there are plenty of golf courses and horse riding facilities too!

Before you head to dinner in one of the towns best restaurants, why not take a walk around the town and soak up its bustling atmosphere?

    Day 4:
Your next stop will be Killarney in the beautiful Kingdom of Kerry. When you've checked into your accommodation, why not set off on the Ring of Kerry scenic drive - probably the best way to see Kerry's awesome scenery.

In Killarney itself, see attractions like Ross Castle and Muckross House or roam through Killarney National Park and see its wide variety of flora and fauna. Killarney is always busy with people during the summer months so stroll through the town in the evening and enjoy its lively environment.

    Day 5:
You will spend your next day in County Clare. You can get here by one of two different routes:

  • Head to Listowel and on to Tarbert where you can get a ferry to County Clare

  • or
  • Go to Clare via Limerick city
  • Clare is host to a whole number of attractions - some that we've found to be more popular with our Self Drive customers are the Burren, Bunratty House and prepare to be amazed by the views from the Cliffs of Moher. Lisdoonvarna is a popular tourist town in West Clare - its got loads of accommodation options for you to choose from too!

    Days 6 and 7:
Basing yourself in Clifden for the next two nights is the best way to discover the beauty of Ireland west. If you stay in the Carna Bay Hotel, you couldn't find a better place to tour the stunning Connemara region from.

Your drive around Connemara should be relaxing and pleasurable, stopping as you please in some of the following towns, Clifden, Oughterard, Leenane and Maams Cross. If you fancy a break from driving, get some fresh air walking or cycling around these parts.

And remember Connemara is a Gaeltacht area - you'll get a real insight into Irish language and culture here, not to mention a challenge when it comes to reading the sign posts in Gaelic!

    Day 8:
You're nearing the end of your holiday so make the most of your last day in majestic Ireland and drive along the tranquil shores of Lough Erne.

Heading east, you'll drive through the peaceful Midlands where you'll eventually enter the stunning Boyne Valley. Stop in Navan, and enjoy a walk through the busy market town or visit the nearby Boyne Valley Visitor Centre where you can see Newgrange, Ireland's famous megalithic passage tomb.

After this you'll return to Dublin, where you can enjoy the last night of your holiday.

    Day 9:
Unfortunately today is the day you leave Ireland. Be sure to bring treasured memories with you and you never know - you might return again.

Transfer to Dublin Airport can be arranged. Arrive at the airport on time and have a safe journey home.
