This Self Drive tour takes place over nine days and eight nights.
Here's the plan! Pick up your rental car and road map in Dublin and you'll be on your way. Choose to follow the route we've set out below or customise it to wherever you want to go.
And before you ask about accommodation, you can be sure you'll have a place to stay as we've a wide range of Tourist Board Approved properties located throughout Ireland including castles and manors.
Day 1:
When you arrive at Dublin Airport, your rental car will be parked up and ready to bring you on the trip of a lifetime! You'll be glad to know that Kilkea Castle is less than an hour's drive away so if you're a little jet lagged, you're sure to get a good nights sleep in this luxurious castle's peaceful surroundings.
Day 2:
Hit the road nice and early to get the best possible start. Your second day brings you to Waterford city, the capital of the sunny southeast. Enjoy the riverside bustle of one of Ireland's oldest cities and you'll be glad to hear it has loads of golf, horse riding, cycling, walking and angling amenities, making it a visitors dream.
Not forgetting also that the city is home to the world-renowned Waterford Crystal - why not call to its visitor centre while here.
Day 3:
From Waterford, drive in the direction of Cork city, stopping in Dungarvan, Waterford's pretty coastal town, along the way. Head into Cork city where you can do a spot of shopping or visit attractions such as Cork City Gaol and University College Cork. Cork's friendly atmosphere extends onto the nearby seaside town of Kinsale.
Renowned to be the 'Gourmet Capital of Ireland', you are sure to get a fantastic meal here - and we recommend you try one of their great fish dishes as you can be sure that the produce is fresh. This quaint town is always bustling with tourists and the locals are very friendly.
Day 4:
Killarney's lakes and mountains await you today! Soak up this small but ever so charming towns fantastic ambience with a walk though its National Park or a pint in a local pub. You're sure to come across some traditional Irish music being played somewhere in the town, so when you do, sit down, enjoy it and if you can, join in!
The best way to see the place that they call the Kingdom, is by taking the Ring of Kerry scenic drive - along this route, you will get the best view of Irelands highest mountain, Carrauntuohill and the Atlantic oceans rolling waves crashing off the rugged coast.
Day 5:
Don't be too sad leaving wonderful Killarney as you can head to Tralee, Kerry's county town on your way to Adare. Adare boasts to be Ireland's prettiest village and who are we to argue! With its little thatched cottages and glorious surroundings, it's hard to believe that this haven is just 10 minutes drive from Limerick city.
There are championship golf course and loads of tourist amenities just a short drive from the village so you can take advantage of your peaceful surroundings with a good nights sleep!
Day 6:
So you're ready for road again! Travel to Cong in County Mayo and you will be amid some of Ireland's most striking surroundings. Why not stay in Ashford Castle where you'll be treated like royalty - you can't get better than that. Enjoy the castles peaceful ambience and feel free to roam though its gardens.
When you arrive at Cong, you may ask yourself why it looks so familiar - it could be because it was here that the famous John Wayne film 'The Quiet Man' was set. Take a tour of the preserved set if you like. If you want to take a trip beyond Cong, nearby town Headford has loads for you to see and do - remember, only with a Self Drive package do you get flexability like this.
Day 7:
From Cong, you will begin your return journey. You will spend your next night in Connemara's Ballynahinch Castle Hotel but before you reach the majestic hotel, stop off in Galway, the city of Tribes. This is Ireland's most cosmopolitan city and you are sure to find something you like here - if anything, a stop in this vibrant and busy city will allow you to really appreciate the tranquillity of Ballynahinch and the untouched landscape that will surround you there.
When you reach Connemara, you can drive, walk or cycle around Ireland's most distinctive landscape admiring the vistas that will surround you as you go.
Day 8:
You're drawing nearer to the end of your holiday. Today's drive will bring you to County Clare, which is home to some of Ireland's finest beaches and remarkable attractions. Set high above the wild Atlantic Sea are the Cliffs of Moher - you can enjoy some magnificent views from here. The Burren is home to Ireland's most unusual karst landscape and if you're looking for something a little bit different, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park will be right up your street.
Want to stay somewhere that little bit extra special for your last night? It doesn't get any better than the magnificent Dromoland Castle. This castle mingles old world elegance with modern day charms brilliantly - it's surrounded by superb gardens for you to wander through too.
Day 9:
And so you've reached the end of your holiday! Luckily Dromoland Castle is only 8km from Shannon Airport so you don't have to dread the long journey to the airport. We hope the Irish Castles and Manors Self Drive was all you expected and more! Safe journey home and we hope you return to Ireland's green shores soon!
