Cycling Holidays in Ireland Safety Tips

Although the roads that we travel on are generally quiet and out of the main traffic routes, we would recommend that you apply the following safety tips for a happy and safe journey.

1) Although you legally do not have to wear a helmet, we would strongly advise you to bring your own or rent one while here.

2) Remember your brakes will not work as well in the rain. Take extreme care in particular when going down hill.

3) It can be easy to get lost in your dreams, which is part of the enjoyment of the tour, but just remember to keep on the left-hand side of the road!

4) Always ensure that your pannier bag is secured to the bike, never cycle with just the pannier rack and no bag on it.

5) If there is traffic behind you keep your course, straight and predictable. If you are causing a traffic jam behind, you could pull into the side for a moment and let it pass you by.

6) If you are cycling in a group just remember to be careful, keep a clear view of the road ahead of you, in particular coming up to corners and overtaking each other.

7) The roads we travel are off the beaten track but do take care coming in and out of the towns where you might encounter traffic again.
