This is the story in sound and vision of the Industrial Development of an unique Irish Town. Originally built in 1907 for the purpose of storing, mixing and packaging corn, the newly restored Cornmill houses the story of Coalisland's Industrial Heritage. After operating in the heart of the town for 71 years, work finally came to a standstill at the mill in 1978. The mill then lay empty and derelict, until renovations began in 1990. The major feature within The Cornmill Centre, is the Heritage Floor. Housed on this floor are a range of interpretative techniques which offer an insight into some four centuries of industrial change in the Coalisland area. This interpretation is known quite simply as the "Coalisland Experience". In addition to a sound-track of recorded memories, the "Coalisland Experience" uses photographic images paintings, reconstructions, industrial artefacts, and murals, which give the visitor an overview of the diverse industries which existed in the area. 'But just as man created machine, machine created man', creating memories that are deeply embedded in Coalisland's social history.
