Built in the 19th century - Gurthalougha House stands on the shores of Lough Derg, one of Ireland's largest and most beautiful lakes, formed by the River Shannon.

Description
The drawing room, library and diningroom all have beautiful views across the lake to the hills of Clare and Galway. The house is cntrally heated thrughout and comfortably furnished in keeping with its period. The eight bedrooms are spacious and individually decorated, all with private bathrooms and direct dial phone. The atmosphere at Gurthalough is one of relaxation and gentle informality - breakfast is served until mid-day. Snack lunches are provided but we find most guets go out to explore the surroundig countryside for the da - returning with a hearty apetite for dinner. Dinner is srved at eight o'clock - drinks and niblets re served beforehand in the sittingroom while the guests choose from he menu. - he keeps toa small menu,offering a double option either/or for ech course - this enables him ot make sur his guests ae getting the freshest ingredients possible and a different menu every night. Michael is assistd in the running of the house by friendly local staff and his wife Bessie.

The House, originally a hunting lodge, is built round a cobbled courtyard filled with flowers. It is to be found at the end of an avenue which winds through one hundred and fifty acres of mature woodland. Situated in mid-Ireland, Gurthalougha, is ideally placed as a touring centre and many of Ireland's best known attractions are within easy motoring distance - Lady Gregory's Coole Park, Yeats' Tower, The Cliffs of Moher, The Burren (with its unique flora), Clonmacnoise, The Rock of Cashel, as well as Galway City. In the surrounding area are four golf courses, pony trekking, a sailing school, two english language schools, yachts can be hired and kept on our quay. In the local towns and villages you will find craft shops, antique shops, castles and gardens open to the public and a forest park.
