Accommodation loughglynn

The historic Loughglynn, in the heart of the west Roscommon Lake District is saturated in folklore. The village is surrounded by no fewer than six lakes, including "Loch Glinne", artificial by nature, built by the Lord of the Manor as a birthday present for his wife. The Dillon estate and surrounding area was home to Ned Duffy, Fenian Leader who was honoured by O'Donnavan Rossa in verse. The village has been honoured far and wide in song as has its beautiful woodland on its outskirts. Charles Strickland served as agent to Lord Dillon here and gave his name to Charlestown, which he built and also built a large part of Ballaghaderreen. The Manor, now a Francisan Convent is still in perfect condition. The ruins of Gala Castle, on the north side of the lake, is believed to be the original site of Loughglynn. Nearby Errit Loch is one of the most renowned fishing spots in Roscommon.
