Brideswell

Th village is the site of St Brigid's Holy Well and as is the custom here, there is a Pattern Mass to celebrate the changing of the seasons on the last Sunday of July. This custom derives from pagan times, the Festival of Lughnasa, and the tradition has been upheld over the centuries. Brideswell is situated 6 miles (9km) from Athlone as you travel westward on the Tuam road. Athlone is a major industrial and tourist town on the River Shannon right in the heart of Ireland. It is also situated on the South Roscommon Cycle Route and is within easy reach of Athlone (a major tourist town); the Clonmacnoise Monastic Site and the River Shannon to the east; the River Suck and the Suck Valley Way Tourist Trail to the west. To the north is the historic and attractive town of Roscommon and the Famine Museum at Strokestown House.
