Castlerea
The third most important town in the county, is beautifully situated in wooded country on the banks of the Suck. It was the birthplace in 1815 of Sir William Wilde, educated in the diocesan school in Elphin and father of the celebrated dramatist and wit, Oscar Wilde. Clonalis House, just west of the town, is the ancestral home of the clan O' Conor, who gave eleven high kings to Ireland and twenty four kings to Connacht. Castlerea is an important retail and commercial centre in County Rosscommon. Fishing, swimming golf, walking and cycling can all be enjoyed locally.

Castlerea International Rose Festival
This vibrant festival takes place around the 1st to 5th August each year. Top Bands perform on the street of the town and the festival hosts one of the best street carnival parades in Connaught. Activities include sports for children, great music and a lively evening programme for all the family.
The Suck Valley Walk
The Suck Valley Way offers walkers an opportunity to experience the beauty, peace and tranquility of the countryside. The route offers an attractive and varied countryside and passes over hillside, through forest, woodlands, bogland, along the banks of the River Suck, its many lakes and through open countryside. There is also a wide range of historical and archaeological sites to be seen along the way, including a unique La Tene Stone dating back to the Iron Age.
