This is a small mountain lough situated on a high windswept moorland to the east of Slieve Beagh and near the Tyrone--Monaghan border. It is a long way from the nearest road and at least a good 2-mile walk, which will probably take as many hours. It is wise to tell some one where you are going and when to expect you back. Loughanalbanagh holds a small stock of good brown trout, with some possibly to 4lb. It fishes best with a good breeze and there can be good sport too on a summer evening with sedges and heather moths. Every fish in the loughs seems to come to the surface to feed in the calm conditions at dusk and a suitable dry fly can often bring a tug, a splash and a lovely trout. The two small loughs to the east to half lb or even a little better. Standard wet flies work well in smaller sizes. Permission: Not usually required.
