Celebrating 100 years of Golf in 2008, Westport Golf Club is set in 260 acres of rolling parkland on the shores of Clew Bay. Rated as one of the top golf courses in Ireland, it is the number one parkland golf destination in the Ireland West region. Recognised as a prestigious venue it has hosted both the Ladies Home Internationals in 1989 and the Irish Amateur Close Championship on four occasions, most recently in 2005. In 2008, Westport Golf Club will be hosting the Irish Ladies Amateur Championship, Irish Amateur Seniors Championship and the Provincial Finals of the Bulmers Cups and Shields, as well as a number of special events to celebrate the Centenary.

The staging of the 2002 Smurfit Irish P.G.A. Championship in Westport clearly established Mayo as the premier golf county in Ireland.
