Knock Folk museum, officially opened and blessed in May of 1987 and is located on the grounds of then Knock Shrine. Knock has rapidly established itself as one of the major tourist attractions in Ireland. The museum's theme 'A look into the past' portrays life in 19th century rural Ireland and the museum itself is divided into fifteen sections each devoted to a particular subject. It attempts to delve deeper into the past so that visitors will gain a sense of historic place.
It also takes a look on what happened on the evening of the Apparition.

Description
The fully furnished thatched cottage built inside the museum is in fact a museum within a museum. With it's half door, open fire, crane hag-bed etc., the cottage is a particular favourite with our visitors.
On view is a life-size typical classroom shown as it might be furnished at the turn of the century.
The fishing display shows an original 'currach' (boat) complete with a variety of nets baskets and other implements used by fishermen of the day.
There's also a very interesting display of tools used by craftsmen such as the village blacksmith, the carpenter, the shoemaker and many more.
Features appreciated by sporting enthusiasts are the jerseys, equipment and photographs donated by some of the country's leading Gaelic Athletic Association county teams.
With over 2,000 exhibits on display along with an abundance of photographs, Knock Folk Museum is an exciting place for both young and old.
The pony and trap, penny farthing bicycle and a range of prams are some of the items which feature in the transport section
Various prints also record the means of transport which have developed during the past century.
