Hotel Newport is located on main street in the picturesque town of Newport in County Mayo. This delightful 3 star hotel is an ideal haven for a short break as sea angling, golf , horse riding and blue flag beaches are all within a short distance. In addition we are at the heart of the "Great Western Greenway". This is Ireland's longest off road cycling experience which uses vast amounts of the old Great Western Greenway from Westport to Achill as its base. Stretching from Newport to Mulranny, the 18km of undisturbed cycling is suitable for all fitness levels and ages. The Greenway is soon to be extended (from mid July 2011) both from Newport to Westport and from Mulranny to Achill island. The Greenway will total some 42km when fully completed.

There are numerous activities available within walking distance of Hotel Newport. Why not visit St. Patrick's Church, built in 1914 in the Irish Romanesque style by Rudolph M. Butler. It has a magnificent stained glass east window of "The Last Judgement". This is the last window completed by Harry Clarke in 1930.
A recently fitted top of the range childrens playground is just a 3 minute walk from the hotel and offers a variety of activities for young children. There is also tennis courts and handball alleys all within walking distance of Hotel Newport.
For the more adventerous person why not attempt one of Mayo's country trails. There are numerous trails of varing difficulty in the area. Some of the loop walks are also intergrated into the Great Western Greenway. The 18km trip to Mulranny should take about 5-5.30 hours when walking. If walking isn't your forte how about trying to cycle the Greenway? Why not hire a bike and see can you beat the current Great Western Greenway cycling record of 31 minutes!

'The quiet Man'. starring Maureen O'Hara, John Wayne and Barry Fitzgerald which was shot in 1951 and released in 1952 was set in the beautiful West of Ireland, with filming being centred in the village of Cong, Achill Island & Clare Island.

Very easy going hotel, although it is old it is. Clean One really annoying thing was that their credit card machine was not working and hasn.t been for a while.
