The Smarmore Castle is a medieval castle located a few kilometres outside of Ardee in County Louth. This historic house still manages to present the charm and elegance of a bygone age with all the modern comforts that we in the 21st century enjoy, including a full leisure centre on the premises.
There are 5 ensuite rooms in the house including some with four poster beds! The rooms are spacious, feature a large sitting area and have a writing desk; they also come with all the amenities to help ensure your comfort, including a TV, telephone, hairdryer and a tea/coffee making facility.

Directions

From Ardee continue 3km in the direction of Dublin on the N2 until you pass the Hunterstown Inn pub.Take the next right turn. Follow signs for 3km.

Description

This 14th century castle has been fully refurbished and it includes a restaurant in the courtyard. The castle also has its own private gardens available for guest use and also has ample car parking.
Activities include cycling, hill walking, pitch and putt, angling, the Ardee Golf Course and horse riding at the Carrickmacross School of Equestrian, which is located about 20km away.
One of the most impressive nearby attractions is Newgrange, located just over the border in County Meath.

The rooms were enormous. We stayed in the Knights room which had a separate sitting room with a quirky uneven floor. Very medieval!
