the national self portrait collection

Most of the 194 artists whose self-portraits are on display at the National Self-Portrait Collection are contemporary, but the collection goes back to a painting by landscape artist John Butts dated from 1760. 19th century works include self-portraits by Louis King Bradford and James Arthur O’Connor, and the early mid 20th century is strongly represented. The range of media used includes oils, water colours, print, stained glass and a large sculpture section.
