Castleconnel has developed as a popular angling resort, which is unsurprising giving the catches enjoyed on this stretch of the Shannon. The world-renowned salmon fishery draws game anglers. Four of the eight beats are let by tender and four work on a day ticket basis. Each beat is limited to three rods a day. Boats give access to the large pools. In spring there is a good run of salmon, peaking in May-April and there is plenty of grilse peaking in June. Coarse angling can be enjoyed in the deeper water below the salmon beats, and the river yields good numbers of bream, tench, rudd, and roach.
