Step back in time and discover the magic and charm of an Irish narrow gauge railway at the end of the 19th century. The line, which opened in 1887 and was closed in 1959, is being lovingly restored as a fully operational railway. Originally, the line ran from Dromod to Belturbet, some 33 and three quarter miles, with a 14 and three quarter mile spur from Ballinamore to Arigna. Today, half a mile of the railway has been rebuilt to a temporary terminus at Clooncolry. From here we hope to extend a further 5 and a quarter miles through the beautiful moorland to Mohill, where the station is also being restored. Your round trip takes 20 minutes, leaving you plenty of time to have a guided tour around the locomotive sheds, workshops, the transport museum and our aviation collection.
Located just off the Dublin to Sligo road (N4). Longford 11 miles, Carrick-on-Suir 11 miles. Directly opposite the Iarnrod Ireland station in Dromod.
