Sean MacDiarmada was one of the leaders of the 1916 rising. He was born and rared in Kiltycougher, Co. Leitrim and was educated by the Christian Brothers.
At the age of 25 he moved to Dublin, and he became envolved with the Irish Rebublician Brotherhood (IRB) was made secretary and he was one of the first member of the Irish Volenteers.

As he was stricken with Polio, he did very little fighting duing the 1916 rising,  but he was still stationed at the GPO giving orders to his men.
He was then arrested and executed, at the prime age of 33.
