An ancient (9th-10th century) stone cross faces the N15 in the village. This was moved here to protect it from coastal erosion and was believed to be part of a long vanished monastery. The Annals of the Four Masters is one of the principal Irish historical sources for scholars. It was compiled in 1636 by Miceal O Cleirigh, O.F.M and three of his colleagues.
