This route can be driven but the roads are very narrow and uneven. It is recommended as a walk because there is no better way to savour the extraordinary beauty of this scenic route. The roads are quiet and the journey can be accomplished comfortable in half a day. The walk starts next to the attractive neat white washed post office in Rossinver, where a signpost directs the walker onto the Barr Scenic Route. Follow this road, keeping right at the Y junction. The waterfall, signposted right, gives access to a series of lovely cascades along which runs a riverside walk on the banks of the Glenaniff River. Return to the road, turning right. Cross the river taking the first turn right and turn right again, following the scenic route sign. This narrow road rises to command lovely views over Lough Melvin and there are many opportunities to stop and stare. Song birds and wildlife occupy the hedgegrows and trees, providing a delightful accompaniment on the descent to join the main road by the lake shore.

Turn right to return to Rossinver for a worthwhile detour. Head south on the Manorhamilton road, where St Molaise's Well is signposted right. The church and O'Meehan House also signposted here, have long since disappeared. The Church of Ireland ruin on the main road left has no connection with the well. Continue south and turn left, signposteed Lisdarush. The outline of this grass covered Iron Age ring fort stands out clearly against a remarkable, scenically beautiful background overlooking Lough Melvin. Return to Rossinver.
