The two central works in the programme are Bach’s post-reformation Lutheran Mass in G major and Cantata 115 - a dramatic setting of a text from a German hymn (chorale). Sunday 8th November
Music Network presents three of Ireland’s outstanding female artists, Celine Byrne (soprano), Tara Erraught (mezzo soprano) and Dearbhla Collins (piano), at Castalia Hall, Ballytobin, Callan, Co. Kilkenny on Sunday 8th November at 4pm. Tickets priced €15 / €10 are available at Tel. 056 7761497. The programme of operatic gems for this tour, entitled Songs for Cecilia, includes a piece specially commissioned by RTE lyric fm from Ian Wilson, songs and duets by Purcell, Mozart, Schumann, Strauss, and Puccini as well as arias from Cosi fan Tutte, The Barber of Seville, Madam Butterfly and Norma. This concert is promoted by Music Network and Music in Kilkenny.
Following performances at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall and the National Concert Hall, soprano Celine Byrne has become familiar to audiences worldwide thanks to her collaboration with the tenors José Carreras and Roberto Alagna. Winner of First Prize at the 2007 Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens, Celine is a soloist with several opera companies and has also performed with the classical stars such as percussionist Evelyn Glennie and conductors David Giménez, Robert Houlihan and Colman Pierce. Celine was recently awarded the Margaret Burke Sheridan Medal in recognition of her successful career as a singer, and ambassador for Ireland. Commenting on the award Celine said, “ I have achieved some success abroad and would like to think of myself as being an Irish ambassador for the arts but this is the first time that I have received recognition on home soil. For the first time, my family can share in the experience, as so often they could not travel with me to competitions and concerts. This award and gold medal means the world to them and to me".
Mezzo soprano Tara Erraught’s star is definitely in the ascendant, having won a slew of awards in recent years, including first prize in the Jakub Pustina International singing competition in the Czech Republic, the Washington National Opera prize and the Houston Grand Opera prize at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna. She is currently artist in residence with the highly respected Bavarian State Opera, Munich.
The two singers are accompanied by the incomparable Dearbhla Collins, a prize-winning solo pianist who is equally known for her work as a chamber musician and vocal coach, and for her knowledge of the song repertoire.

“One of the supremely great violinists of our time.” Bernard Jacobson, Musicworld International
Tasmin Little was already being hailed as one of the finest violinists of her generation when in 2008 she turned the music industry on its head with her trail-blazing project, The Naked Violin, in which she offered free downloadable works for solo violin in a bid to encourage newcomers to classical music. Noted for her technical virtuosity, velvety tone and irresistible joie de vivre, Tasmin has played with many of the world’s greatest orchestras in a career that has taken her from Katowice to China. A champion of lesser-known works, in 2003 she wowed critics worldwide with her breathtaking performances of Ligeti’s challenging violin concerto while on tour with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle. In addition to her regular solo performances, she now play/directs orchestras such as Norwegian Chamber, London Mozart Players, Royal Philharmonic, European Union Chamber and Britten Sinfonia. Her twenty-three recordings range from Bruch and Brahms to Karlowicz and Arvo Pärt and in March this year she released her latest album, Partners in Time, to critical acclaim. The Naked Violin tour is interactive in nature and therefore there is a degree of flexibility within the programme.
