Kilkenny Arts Festival has experienced phenomenal growth in recent times. The festival is recognised nationally and internationally as one of Ireland’s biggest and best multi-disciplinary arts festivals. The festival is renowned for attracting leading artists and performers across all art forms from around the world. Stunning visual art, original and innovative theatre productions, spectacular street entertainment, a comprehensive and fun children’s programme, an exciting and innovative new contemporary music programme “Wired”, internationally renowned traditional and jazz musicians, leading authors from the world of literature and high profile classical music acts are just some of what can be expected at the 2009 Kilkenny Arts Festival.

Here are some of the highlights for Kilkenny Arts Festival 2009: Peter Brook’s Love is My Sin, an elegant staging of Shakespeare’s Sonnets, with long-time collaborators Bruce Myers and Natasha Parry. Garrison Keillor reading in that extraordinary voice from his latest book Pontoon: A Novel of Lake Woebegon. New York’s Mabou Mines returning to the Festival with Lucia’s Chapters, exploring the life and death of Lucia Joyce. Professor Roy Foster delivering the Hubert Butler Annual Lecture. Visionary Irish artists such as Corban Walker, Gary Coyle, Isobel Nolan and John Byrne will celebrate the contemporary visual art being made in here in Ireland in 2009. Plus Amiina, Low, Julie Feeney, R.S.A.G. and much much more… Kilkenny isn’t just about going to see the big names and events, it’s also about the undiscovered big names of the future.
