The Smuggler’s, set in the heritage town of Athy, demonstrates the traditional values of a turn of the century rural ale house. Once a very ordinary pub careful remodelling and refurbishing has given this delightful establishment a vintage character whose rebirth is virtually undetectable.
The entire premises is full of dated bric-a-brac and interesting memorabilia. Many artefacts are on display including medals, coins, guns, farm machinery, swords from the American Civil War and a wooden leg.
A great music house, organised sessions set the mood. An impromptu session could be in full swing at any time - all musicians welcome. Work up a hunger here and there are always freshly made sandwiches available.
