Built strategically on a rock where the River Liffey and the Rye Water meet, Leixlip Castle dates back to the Norman Invasion of 1171. The castle was built by Adam de Hereford, a follower of Strongbow. The round tower was added on later in the 14th century.
It's definitely worth checking out. The Front Hall, features a 17th century Brussels tapestry depicting Theodotus offering the head of Pompey to Caesar, while furnishings in the Dining Room include Chippendale chairs and Bavarian tapestries and you'll also notice many family portraits on the walls of this room. The plasterwork in the Library dates from the mid 18th Century. Another popular feature is the large 18th century Dolls House in the Drawing Room that originally came from Newbridge House.
