Route Description Following the gaudy signpost of the Kildare Way, cross the prominent Binn's Bridge in Roberstown (1) to reach the north side of the canal, thus leaving the main part of the village. Take the road beyond, continuing straight ahead along a narrow road beside the canal where the main road swings right. Just before Lowtown Marina, cross Fenton Bridge, pass around the Marina buildings (2) and cross the high footbridge beyond, where a signpost announces far off and exotic destinations culminating in St Mullins 70miles away. Turn left beyond the footbridge and walk along the towpath, passing one road bridge (do not cross it). At the second bridge continue straight ahead onto a metalled road, pass Ballyteige Castle (3) and a lock; just beyond it, turn right onto a side road, thus following the purple arrows of the 'Roberstown Local Walk' (you follow these to the end of the walk). Take this narrow road, further on a rough farm road, initially through an area of scattered houses and later through a state forest, and past turfworkers' billets on the right (4) (both forest and billets appear by their unkempt and desolate appearances to be reverting to the gentle care of nature).Pass a turn on the left and at a T junction turn left to pass to the right of the end of a raised bog (5), with the cooling tower of Allenwood Power Station (6) ahead.

Description
At the next T Junction turn left onto the main road (not right as instinct for home would rightly suggest ), and a few steps along turn right up a side road, so reaching yet another stretch of canal. Turn right here to follow the towpath to the next bridge, Shee Bridge. Cross this bridge and continue along an overgrown towpath (now on the left bank) past Bond Bridge (do not cross this one), so reaching again the canal bank opposite Lowtown Marina. Return along the same side road as the outward journey to reach Roberstown, turning right over Binn's Bridge to reach the village.
