November Programme 2009
2nd – 30th: Identity
An exhibition of new works by Limerick based artist; Ciarán O Sullivan. Identity reminds us of the value of the everyday unmarked moments when we truly recognize and know each other.

Tuesday 3rd: The Apartment
@ 2pm The muti oscar winning Billy Wilder classic film featuring Jack Lemon and Shirley Mc Claine. In association with Samhlaiocht Chiarraí and Kerry Film Festival.
Weds 4th: Days of Wine and Roses
Two strangers in 60’s London, fall in love with Life, each other and the booze. This new version of J.P. Miller’classic by Owen Mc Cafferty is both funny and moving and features  Martin Brody and Judith Roddy. The play is directed by Conall Morrison and presented by Everyman Palace Theatre, Cork, The Civic Theatre,Tallaght and Galloglass Theatre Co.

Saturday 7th:  An EveningWith Peggy Sweeney & Friends
 An evening of songs, stories, music and dance featuring the best of talent from Kerry, Cork & Limerick.

Sunday 8th: Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs and Bosco
@ 2pm & 4pmA treat for 3 – 10 year olds and their parents. One of the best loved fairytales is presented by   Paula Lambert’s Puppet Theatre with a guest appearance by ‘Bosco’.

Tuesday 10th: Film Club; Summer
Rober Carlyle plays a working class hero looking after his crippled dying alcoholic friend as he mourns the passing of youth and the way that love slipped through his fingers. In association with Access Cinema. 

Thursday 12th: Mick Hanley In Concert
Ireland’s most internationally renowned singer/songwriter and ex ‘Moving Hearts’ lead singer, Mick’s ‘Past The Point Of Rescue’, (made famous by Hal Ketchum and Mary Black) was the most requested song across the U.S. in ’92.

Friday 13th: We Once Sang Like Other Men
A play about a middle aged man and a young woman who shared a past and now must deal      with the present. Written by John Mc Kenna and presented by Mend & Make Do Theatre Co.

Saturday 14th: Variety Concert
 Featuring students from Denise’s School of Music, in a programme of classical , folk and traditional music.

Wednesday 18th: Duo Chagall
Classical favourites with Gillian Williams – violin and Arun Rao – Cello. The programme will feature works by Milhaund, Ravel, Rhonda Clarke and Kodaly. A Music Network presentation.

Thursday 19th: Isla Grant in Concert

Scotland’s favourite singer/songwriter has found her greatest success outside of her home  country, especially in Ireland where her wonderfull easy listening style; featuring country & folk songs, is a winner with audiences.

Friday 20th: Kavanagh

Written by Tom O Brien and directed by John Dunne, the play explores the life and times of Irish poet; Patrick kavanagh, as seen through the eyes of Hilda Moriarty, who was the inspiration for the poet’s ‘Raglan Road’.
Presented by The London Irish Theatre.

Tuesday 24th: After The Ball
@ 7.30 pm A C.D. launch featuring songs and monologues with former Republic of Ireland soccer player and manager; Eoin Hand. The C.D. is produced by Mickey Mc Connell and alsofeatures, Jim Gornell, Wayne Tarron, Gabriel Fitzmaurice, John O’ Brien, David O’ Brien and Richard Casey – Admission Free. All Welcome. Proceeds to St. Johns recent extension fund.

Thursday 26th Many Young Men Of Twenty
- Tues 1st Dec: John B. Keane’s musical comedy on poverty and emigration in 1950’s Ireland is as relevant today as fifty years ago. The cast features: Claire Keane, Tommy Denihan, Fiona Keane-Stack, Batt O Keefe, Jimmy Griffin, Oliver Mc Grath, Frances Kennedy, Chris Fitzgerald, TomCollins, Conor Foley, Bernie Daly, Sonny Egan, Denis Hobson, Darren Mc Donnell, Sharon Farrelly O’ Rourke, Rebecca Stapleton and Katie Neal.

1st – 5th October
The Master

The Listowel Drama Group presents Bryan Mac Mahon’s acclaimed play to mark the centenary of his birth. The cast features Owen Mac Mahon, Imelda Dowling Garvey, Pa Sheahan, Anne Marie Nash, Kevin Barry, Denis Hobson, Mike Moriarty, Ben Landy, John Kinsella, Liz Horgan, Brendan Landy, Cora O’Brien, Rebekah Garvey and members of St. John’s Youth Theatre.

Un Dia Sin Ti

An exhibition of original artwork by Paul Woods from the book of the same title by Ricardo Blancas.

The Best of Traditional

With Gerry Harrington – fiddle, Peter Browne – pipes and Phil Callery-singer.

Sun 11th October
Country Music

A play by Simon Stephens presented by Decadent Theatre Co. and Galway Arts Centre. The play is a modern tragedy on the life of Jamie Carris who is sent to prison for murder and who when released attempts to redeem his past. Directed by Andrew Flynn and produced by Paraic Breathnach, the cast features Andy Kellegher, Seona Tully, Cathal Finnerty and Charlene Craig.

Tuesday 13th October
Film Club: I’ve Loved You So Long

A film directed by Philippe Claudel, France, which tells the story of Juliette who has been released from prison after 15 years. A story about the strength of women and their ability to reinvent themselves and shine.

Wednesday 14th October
On The Black Hill

A play by Charles Way, based on the novel by Bruce Chatwin, and presented by AJTC. Theatre Co., Essex. This is an award winning tale of twin brothers as they struggle with the harsh realities and humour of farming life on the border of England and Wales and the dilemma as to who will inherit the farm.

Thursday 15th October
Louis Stewart Quartet

With Jim Hart Louis has worked with some of the greatest names in jazz in a career that spams almost fifty years. The jazz guitarist will be joined by Jim Hart – vibraphone, Mike Coady – bass and Stephen Keogh – drums.

Kerry School Of Music Concert Featuring Teachers, Students and Special Guests.

Brendan Grace

The greatest family comedian of our generation proudly presents 39 years in the comedy business in a Show which features some new material and some old favourites from his vast repertoire.

Friday 23rd October at 8pm
84 Charing Cross Road

8 pm: Set in 1949 this play tells the story of Helen, a struggling writer living in New York who sets up a correspondence with Frank, a London bookseller. Warm, Touching and Funny.

9pm: More Lives Than One – Oscar Wilde And The Black Douglas. A play loosely inspired by Michael Mac Liamoir’s “The Importance of Being Oscar. This drama double bill is presented by Dear Conjunction Theatre Co., Paris.

Listowel Through A Lens

A book of photographs of Listowel in the recent past taken by Mary Cogan. Mr Billy Keane will perform the launch at 8pm. Everyone Welcome.

Tuesday 27th October
Film Club: The Class

Directed by Laurent Camtet, France, the film focuses on a year in a schoolroom, presided over by a young teacher, in a rough Parisian neighbourhood.

Thursday 29th October
The Pre – Madonnas

A programme of arias and duets from composers such as Verdi, Mozart, Bellini, Delibes and Handel. Also operetta, Victorian songs and comedy. Presented by the Drawing Room Opera Company with Liz Ryan – Mezzo Soprano, Mary Flaherty – soprano and Deborah Kelleher – piano.
