Local Area

South Kerry is arguably the most beautiful and dramatic part of the most scenic county in Ireland. Rowantree is set in the Gap of Dunloe and in walking distance of Killarney National Park which has been described as ‘probably the loveliest part of Ireland if not Europe’. The house is a 30 minute drive away from Kerry Airport and ten minutes to Killarney Town Centre. Cork Airport and Cork harbour are approximately 1 hour and thirty minutes away.

Rowantree offer you the opportunity to stay in a rare and precious location for those who recognise its majesty and inherent value. The Gap of Dunloe, protected by planning laws is still a wild and untamed place with hardly a single human hand on the landscape. It has remained unchanged for thousands of years with mountains whose ancient age predates that of the Himalayas.

Situated on the Gap road and on route into the mountain, there are no near neighbours and the rear of the house is a vista full of interesting wildlife, birds, horses and deer in the morning and evening.

With the mountain wrapping itself like a blanket around the house, this is a place of contemplation where you can simply step back from the busy lives we lead and take sanctuary in the beauty of the area. This is definitely a place to reconnect. It is a place that generates energy and this energy becomes even more awesome as you climb up into the mountains, a breathtaking journey that must be experienced.
