A shortened version of golf. Pitch and putt is played with just a wedge and putter. Courses are located at Tralee, Listowel, Ballybunion and a championship course at Castleisland. The game is played on a 9 or 18 hole course where the maximum distance from tee to green is 70 metres; an 18-hole course cannot exceed 1,000 metres. The scoring target for each hole is a par 3. Typically, the course is four acres, and it will take you one hour to get around. Pitch and Putt was first played in Ireland in the 1940s. By 1961, the game was so popular that the Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland was formed. Today there are more than 13,500 registered adult members and 3,500 juveniles. There are registered clubs in 21 counties. WHY PLAY PITCH AND PUTT? Well, first of all, it's cheap. But, more importantly, it's good fun. It's good practice for golf if you are interested in that game. Playing pitch and putt, you can hone your skills, practice and perfect your form and grip. Also, if you have children and would like them to get involved, this would be the perfect game for those "miniature" adults.
