Mainistir Laoise is the gaelic for Abbeyleix, which is located on the River Nore. The town is know as this as there is an old 12th century Cistercian abbey located here.  You can learn about the history and development of the town within the heritage centre.

The story of Cobh's unique origin are dramatically recalled through a stunning multimedia exhibition.
Visitors can explore the conditions on board the early emigrant vessels to America and a convict ship leaving Cobh to Australia in 1801, discover the connections between Queenstown and the Titanic and learn about Annie Moore who was the first emigrant ever to be processed in Ellis Island....

The design resembles a traditional Irish Farmhouse with a large old-style open fireplace. It is in this setting around the fire that you can get a glimplse of the real Ireland. The magic and spontaneity of the dancers as they weave their intricate steps to the drone of the pipes, or listen to the storyteller as he recounts tales of long ago. Enjoy the hospitality of the woman of the house with tea and lovely wholesome brown bread.
