The Suir provides excellent Trout fishing throughout the season which starts in March and ends in September. Average Weight: 1/2 lb, 3/4lb, 2, 3 and 4 lb. Trout are recorded each season, but not in any great numbers. Mostly Fly Fishing is best, any legal method is allowed on most stretches. Best months are from April on when the evening Rise starts. It is situated in a very sheltered position which can make the fishing very difficult at times. There are hatches of chironomids, olives, even some mayfly and a good sedge hatch. This is a large, shallow expanse of water between Inch Island in Lough Swilly and the mainland at Burnfoot. The water is brackish and the level is maintained by means of floodgates in the dam wall.
