Although the town was founded as such in the medieval period, the history of settlement in the ara goes back much further in time. A brief tour of the town confirms this. Walking westwards from the Cathedral, you willfirst encountr the Temperance Hall, once a Cavalry Barracks. The guided route takes from 4-6 hours daily and ranges in scenery from quiet country lanes and bogland to forest and mountain tracks.
