An old flour mill beside the lake at Mountbellew located on the back road to the forest, over which a duel was fought between a member of the Bellew family and the Darcy family who were landlords in Mountbellew and New Forest. An inscribed plaque on this mill wall tells of the marriages of Dillons, Gratten Belows and Hores....

These mills are early 19th century tall structures of rough-cut limestone....

The very damaged remains of a mortered stone building, possibly square in shape, with well-built walls, and the remains of a doorway on the east side. There was possibly a paddle-wheel turning in a channel, connected to a shaft in a cogwheel inside the building....

On the western side of Corranroo Bay are the ruins of another mill that continued operating until the 1920's. On the wall is an inscribed stone slab that reads - B.B.Esq. 1804 - ; the reference is most likely to Bartholomew de Basterot....

The building dates from the late 18th century, but milling has been carried out on the site since 1558 when Thomas Martin was granted a plot of ground here on which to build a mill, subject to a rent of four pence a year. It lay derelict for a number of years but is now fully restored with important features such as the millwheel retained....
