To the north-east of Maam Valley, which extends from Maam Bridge northwards to Leenane are a group of hills known collectively as Joyce's Country. Although they are steep in places they are not too high (Bunnacunneen, 1,902 feet is the highest summit) and the main ridge can be reached within the hour.

From the hill tops are breathtaking views of Lough Corrib to the South-east, Lough Mask to the north-east and Maam Turks to the north-west.
