This is the largest of the three Aran Islands with an area of 3092ha. It has the most impressive piece of antiquity in all Ireland -the great stone fort of Dun Aongus, on the edge of a cliff, which rises sheer from the sea, 91m below.

The main port is Kilronan. There is an air strip at Killeany, 2.5km south-east of Kilronan, which connects the Island with the mainland. O.S. Co-ordinates: 075-091;2055-213
