The Aran Islands can be found off the coast of County Galway in the west of Ireland. Sitting at the very edge of Europe, these islands are places where time has stood still and the pace of life is slow.
Three rocky outcrops named Inis Mór, Inis Meáin and Inis Oirr make up the Aran Islands. Each island has its own character with Inis Mór being the largest and most popular with visitors.
The islands boasts dramatic scenery, a strong sense of community and culture and some remarkable historic attractions like Dun Aengus - a 2000 year old stone fort!
Today the Aran Islands are home to over 1,300 people and Irish is spoken as the community language making the Aran Islands a Gaeltacht area (Irish-speaking).
Visitors can reach the Aran Island by ferry from Doolin in County Clare and Rossaveal in County Galway, or by air from Indreabhán in County Galway with Aer Arann.
