This charming town on the shores of the Interantionally famous trout-fishing Lough Corrib, is home to Ireland's oldest Angling Club. For more than a century it has been a base for anglers in search of immense brown trout and salmon. Lough Corrib has recently been designated a "salmonid" by the E.C., that is, a special trout and slamon lake worthy of preservation....

Sea Angling:
For the sea angler there is excellent deep sea angling for a wide range of different species from May onwards to about October. Blue shark from the end of July is particularly good around the Aran Islands where some of the boats take up to twenty a day, all of which are released again.
Roundstone and the Clifden areas are also good for blue shark and the occasional porbeagle is caught there, too. There are a number of well-equipped boats at the different locat...

The waters give good roach fishing over most of the year, but usually best from April to December. Roach to over 1Ib and hybrids to 3Ib are common. Bream to over 9Ib have been caught in Ballyquirke Lake. Tench are also present in most of the lakes but are often hard to locate because of the size of the waters. Ballindooley Lough, a few miles out the Headford Road from Galway City, is specially stocked with quality tench and the lake has a number good fishing stands that can be reached from t...

You can find yourself in complete solitude during the day, (often with a whole lake to yourself) and yet in the evenings, great night life is never far away. There's something here for everyone, ranging from traditional Irish music, to hard rock, even tecno. The fishing also offers incredible variety, from some of the small river roach catches, to big weights of Bream in the beautiful rush lined lakes....

River Angling:
Rivers that are reasonable for good brown trout are the Clare River and Robe River, both of which can produce trout to mainly dry fly on summer evenings and during daytime in Mayfly time. The River Robe flows through Ballinrobe and enters Lough Mask, while the Clare river flows into Lough Corrib, on the eastern side.
The last two weeks of April and early May can be outstanding for dry fly on the Robe, the Iron Blue Dun, Orange Quill, Pheasant Tail, Pale Wa...
