Female figures from the worlds of myths, fairy-tales and history finally get a word in with The World’s Wife; an enchanting stage show based on the poetry collection of the same name from Carol Ann Duffy.

Dragging overlooked characters from the past into modern contexts, World’s Wife is an accessible, fun-filled frolic through the dark world of the forgotten female. Using Mephisto’s trademark visceral style the show features characters such as Mrs. Freud, Medusa, Queen Kong and Mrs. Darwin herself. The silent wives are about to speak and their stories are not to be missed. A beauty from start to finish.

The Tailor and Ansty by Eric Cross was first published as a book in 1942 and banned in Ireland shortly afterwards.

The banning of the book on the grounds of alleged indecency and obscenity, was to lay bare once again the absurdity that was Irish censorship. In the ensuing four-day debate in the Senate, one Senator, who claimed to have read all authors “from Rabelais down”, said he had never read a “finer collection of smut”

The production then tours to Fota House, Cork for a 5 week run from the 21 July - 22 August. 8.30pm Monday -Saturday.

THE POOR MOUTH by FLANN O'BRIEN

If you think things might be bad during this recession, spare a thought for the poor gaels what lived during a permanent recession in a place called Corkadoragha somewhere along the western seaboard long long ago.

This is the award winning comedy play adapted from the book of the same name written by Flann O’Brien (Myles na gCopaleen). The play was

adapted for stage by Paul Lee and first presented in the pub An Beal Bocht, Charlemont Street for the Dublin Theatre Festival in 1989.

Any attempt to describe this two act piece of theatre as anything other than a mad comedy would be totally inaccurate. This two-man show, featuring Paul Lee as The Ould Grey Fella and Ciaran Kenny as Bonapart O’Coonassa is a rumbustious comedy which hurls out satirical one-liners at a frantic pace.

From there it went on to tour Ireland and England and won the Guardian Critics Choice Award at the Edinburgh Festival 1991.

It stars Paul Lee and Ciaran Kenny (and a host of other minor gaels!).

What Critics say:

"If you want a powerfully peaceful statement about Irish individuality and a whopping good time, go and see it ... A Masterpiece" - The Guardian

"The funniest show I have ever seen" - Pat Short (D’Unbelievables)

"A mad comedy, Monty Pythonesque humour at a mad frantic pace, a merciless send up. It’s a good laugh all the way" - Evening Herald

"This 90 minute comedy is dominated by hilarious aspects of ancient Gaelic life which have to be seen to be believed. A must" - Irish Press
