The South Wall, Dublin.

Location: Bus 1 goes to Poolbeg power station. Cars come from the coast road through Ringsend.

Distance: 5km/3 miles.

Starting point: The walk begins at the stone-built house with barred windows.

Route: Here, within the harbour, a lighthouse stands in mid-channel. You continue to the first embankment which was begun in 1711. Along the southside of the wall, there is a series of rusting iron bars which extend 20 metres from the wall, this continues for 400 metres. These reduce the force of the waves at the base of the wall. You continue to the Half Moon bathing place. Further on, the Poolbeg lighthouse is bordered by huge lumps of iron-bound masonry which are over 200 years old. The return route is the same as the outward journey.
