The staff here produce spiced beef, using an original recipe, as well as spiced veal and venison. These can be found in supermarkets and delicatessens in the city. The Universal is invaluable for ethnic cooks an for ethnic cooking, whether the cuisine of your dreams is African or Asian, and its slap-dash, higgledy-piggledy arrangement is truly echt, transporting you happily back in time, to those backpacking days in Lahore or Peshawar. If you can't get it anywhere else, they most likely will have it somewhere in here....

Fothergill's is one of the great Dublin delis, with a smashing range of handmade foods. The goodies range from the brilliant lunchtime sandwiches, the carefully composed salads, the excellent cooked meats and plump cheeses, right through to the knockout cakes and desserts which local matrons - shame on you, girls - often have the gall to pass off as their own. A terrific shop, where retaining self-control is almost impossible....

Thomas' Delicatessen has a very keen appreciation of his customers' demands, a fact which has firmly established the importance of Thomas's deli in the area. Lots of choice things, good wines, and friendly, helpful advice....
