Cactus Jacks is a Mexican restaurant with a twist. After extensive traveling to the interiors of Old Mexico, and experiencing the genuine hospitality and delectable cuisine of the Mexican people, the concept of Cactus Jacks was born. This self-service restaurant is bustling and busy at lunch time. Its gigantic portions are much favoured by students and office workers who generally prefer to have their main meal in the middle of the day. The green walls and bamboo blinds give the impression of some exotic tropical spot. The Irish Stew, as well as being plentiful, is very comforting on a wet afternoon. Other dishes include hamburgers (the chef's speciality) and bacon, cabbage and potatoes. Star dessert is lemon cheesecake...

The original and best Dublin chipper remains the original and the best. Fish and chips and bottles of pop is what they do, and they do it with no compromises and with good cheer. Traditionalists may mourn the passing of the old coal-powered fryer - destroyed, almost fittingly in a fire - but Burdocks remains a purveyor of classic fish and chips. Inimitable....

Pigeon salad tiede or pate maison are possible starters, to be followed by grilled lambs' kidneys in masala sauce with chocolate terrine to conclude. Difficult to find, but highly recommended.
