Many of the basic techniques of netball are dependant on control of footwork. Most players will first focus on trying not to travel when they have the ball. As they become more experienced, players develop on ability to make good use of their feet so they can throw, shoot, defend, and attack with more skill. The game can be played indoors or outdoors on a hard surface. The court is divided into thirds, and each of the seven players on a team has a specific position. Players are restricted to certain areas of the court, and they may not hold the ball for more than three seconds. Netball is a rapid passing game in which all players on a team work together to get the ball from one end of the court to the other to score a goal, which is done by getting the ball through a ring on a 10ft post. Only two of the players on each team may shoot a goal. Two umpires control the play and make sure all is fair. Passing is getting the ball to the right player at the right time. In netball, the thrower is often faced with an opponent trying to block the pass, There are several kinds of passes used in the game, but the throwing techniques are no good on their own. Players have to learn the correct place and time to use the techniques in the game. SCORING A GOAL Being able to score is important. Some players have a natural talent for goal scoring but every player needs to practice and develop shooting techniques. Shooting requires some confidence, and players need to practice taking shots from every part of the circle. Good shooters are able to focus and deal with any pressure placed on them.
